Big Brother or No Big Deal?

We're just about done with 1984 and as I continue to share with the kids news articles with an Orwellian or Big Brother feel to them, the reactions continue to be that of outrage and astonishment:

"How can they do that!"

"That's just creepy!"

"They have no right!"

"Are you kidding me!?"
So here's another one I just came across.  We'll see what they say.

  1. I think it could cause some major and serious issues. What would happen if someone stole your card? Then they would not only have access to all of your account information, but all your money too. This is not a good idea :/

  2. It's really weird and disturbing seeing as how everyone will eventually lose their privacy. Sure, maybe in the beginning some may think the technology is cool or even no big deal, but it is. The government will end up taking control over everything and nothing will be the same anymore. Just saying..

  3. The cards could be used by another person as far as I am concerned. I mean, the cards are going to be such a good use, yes, but using them for multiple things could post problems later on down the road. This is most certainly Big Brothers doing.

  4. I think that technology may be going a little too far. Sure it's cool to have some of these things like our smart phones and computers and touch screens. No one stops to think about the possable side effects to all this technology and that scares me more than anything.

  6. Watching that video kinda scares me that people in the past century have predicted the big technologcal ideas and objects in out lifetime. maybe we should listen to some of the great minds of our time and listen to what they have to say about predictions and concerns they have. maybe we can learn something from them rather then doing everything the government wants from us.

  8. 1984 isn't the way the united states will fall in compelete goverment control. What I mean by that is that it won't be threw revolution. The way it will happen is that there will be a crisis. That could be economical or of the war type. When the people ask the goverment to help it will clap down exerte all it's power to take as much as it can of rights and freedoms.

  9. I don't think that these cards are a good idea. It violates people's privacy. I would not want to feel like I am constantly being watched. It's disturbing. And I don't think it should be anyone else's business how much money I have or what books I am reading. That information is personal. The idea of the cards is wrong, simple as that.

  10. The cards seem like a short term program. I don't see the program lasting more than a year with families complaining or refusing the cards. Sure the schools can try the cards, but they won't last.

  11. these cards are a invasion on peoples privacy. there is no reason for the local government to be tracking everyones habits and behaviors. it is just plain wrong. it would be also be to much responsiblity for people to keep track of there cards

  12. I think that the cards are not needed and that we can just keep the traditional way of doing these things rather than having another way to lose information to other people.

  13. The cards are not necessary, it takes away privacy. They are rediculous.

  14. I think it was just a load of crap to scare people to letting the government take over.
